Creative Brief

Logo for a company that produces honey

Garden Island Ho'omalule

No

Garden Island Ho’omalule” is a newly established company in Kauai, Hawaii which produces primarily a mono-floral raw honey from blossoms on Kauai Island as well as Big Island of Hawaii. Blended honey or poly-floral, from different areas of two islands is another line of our product.

The primary operation of this bee-farm is located on Kauai Island, which is called “Garden Island”.

“Ho’omalule” is a Hawaiian word for “re-birth”, “renewal” or “a new beginning”.

This Ho’omalule refers to the new beginning of our company , but it also refers to the spiritual rebirth people experience as Christians. This new company was conceived by a group of Christian families in Kauai to create a local industry aimed at providing job opportunities for unskilled, untrained people or for those released by the penal system. We want help them acquire the training necessary to make a viable living. Thus this emblem, a fish, symbolizes our faith and hope for the future.

In design, we could consider adding a tropical flower, a basket or a honey-comb or honey drop(s). We would also like this logo to be designed with a 3-dimentional look.
Thank you.

More opened up or stylized.
Would like to see examples of closed and open fish.

Hello everyone, One more update we hope you will read. We have made a definite swing back to Logo development, thus simplification. So there are some changes that some members of our group would like to see. We are hoping you will give it a try. Here we go: 1. We seem to be heading to a more banner like design. 4. Keep the Bee. 2. Keep the flower but change it to a kukui flower. I will upload a picture. 5. Hula skirt on the bee is an option that some would like to see. 3. take out the fish 6. no mountains I would also like to add that Kukui flowers come in small bunches. Some of the group want to see small flowers and a big bee as a main character. Thank you in advance, again for your creative efforts. Sincerely, Inoue

Hi everyone, I have extended the contest for another 3 days because there are those of us who would like to see more different designs. The following are some comments from one of our partners. One of our Hawaiian partners indicated that they didn't like that the logo looks more like a fish. They thought flower shapes, the Hawaiian archipelago, a bee with a flower and hula skirt would make a stronger connection to Hawaii. They would prefer using native (type art?). Also mentioned was that "Ho'omaluele" is not a generally known word. So perhaps something like Garden Island ( New Dawn, New Beginning, New Horizon, Fresh Beginning ) be used. Also another partner indicated that "Bees do not go to hibiscus flowers, could it be changed to the Kukui flower?" We were thinking of coming back to the idea of the Kukui flower meaning Light. Some members like the incorporation of the honey comb as the background of the banner. Another liked the fish incorporated into the Kauai island at the bottom of the logo. Another said the word Ho'omalule seem to drown out some of the designs also. There are those who think that the font of the words could be a bit simplified. Yup!. I think that is about it. It kind of reminds me of that old story where blind men are describing an elephant. (heh heh) I mean that in a good way, any partners out there reading this. :P Designers-san, Strengthen your courage, gird your loins and let's see your creativity. Thank you very much in advance for your hard work. Sincerely, Inoue

Dear Designers, Thank you so far for all your contributions. Each of you show talent and artistry. I am not sure that you noticed but we also uploaded our label. Perhaps it is difficult to see so I uploaded it again so you can see it clearly. We feel that we would like to incorporate our label into the logo. Of particular importance in the label is the mountain in the background, the bee (which should be cuter), and the forward flower, not the flowers on the sides, which would look crowded in a logo. You could try this a couple of ways; inside a fish, in an oval, or a more circle like fish. We still want the words "Garden Island Ho'omalule" (Ho'omalule instead of "Honey") Good luck and we can't wait to see what you come up with, Thank you again. Sincerely, Inoue
