Formed in 1979, the National Certified Public Manager® Consortium establishes and preserves standards for the Certified Public Manager® designation. The quality and efficiency of management in government have a major impact on the lives of citizens and the orderly functioning of society. Systematic training programs are essential to maintain and improve the effectiveness and professionalism of government managers.
The purpose of the Consortium is to promote CPM programs by providing and monitoring accreditation standards, facilitating program development, encouraging innovation and developing linkages with programs and organizations with similar concerns. This organization works with colleges, universities, state agencies who develop and deliver CPM programs that link theory and practice and emphasize practical skills for supervisors and managers.
