Creative Brief

Film Industry Logo

Reel Fantástico

No

Reel Fantástico is an online film magazine which will feature articles about independent filmmakers, cinematographers, producers and anyone who is doing something notable in the film industry. We could expand to other areas of film production in the future. A print edition is another possible alternative.

The first word "Reel" is notable in this industry. We needed a suave, slick way to say "really fantastic, " wonderful connecting "Reel Fantástico to the film industry. The word "fantástico gives the company an international appeal. Fantástico means "fantastic" in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.

Many film makers have switched over to digital. Digital Technology has opened the doors for independent film making and a new and exciting to create films. We want to talk to the movers and shakers in the industry who are trying new things

I would like to take this time to thank everyone who participated in the Reel Fantástico project. Many of your designs were diverse, creative and imaginative. I tried to give everyone an equal opportunity to win this competition by giving precise information, ideas, feed-back and links. Although some of your designs were fantastic, I had to go with the design I thought best followed my objectives, was the most original, creative and also matched our style. Again, thank you so much.

Attention Designers!! MycroBurst permits you to submit unlimited designs with unlimited variations. However, if you are providing 2 or 3 different color versions of the same logo in one draft, please make sure that if the particular draft gets finalized, each color version should be separated before you will send the final files. Thanks, MB/LDG Team

My concern with going heavy on the film strip design is that it will become dated once film is replaced by the digital technology. What I like about #135 is that it does both without making it obvious. It is somewhat abstract.

#130 Very well executed, it is creative, fanciful. My question is that the main focus is film in the design yet the doesn't play on the "Reel" in the name of the design. The challenge would have been to do both. I like the custom look. I need to send another private message to point something out that will give away too much on your design in this discussion.

#126 This is a much improved design. I think you are listening. Would be better if the reel wasn't so obvious. Try erasing the inside part of the reel leaving only the small circle and 5 smaller circles. Play with it so the reel isn't the focus and the design becomes one entity. The stars are too large. My eyes go on them and not the entire design. Much cleaner design than #95. I think the font is perfect, but I feel it is a little too large. Try reducing the size slightly.

NOTES These pointers and re-caps of my brief will surely have you all in the winning direction. When you follow these pointers, your awesome designs will make choosing a winner extraordinarily difficult. I felt the need to add this final long brief because I find myself repeating myself when making comments about specific submissions. Keys: concept, uniqueness, synergy, style, fine tuned 1) Please read the brief if you haven't already. Make sure you understand it 2) After reading the brief, and you are not sure, feel free to ask questions. The majority of designers have not communicated with me privately. Those that have are on the top 5. 3) I have said this many times, "do not let "type" be the main focus of the logo design" unless you are making a design with the type. When we look at the logo, everything should be in harmony. There should be some SYNERGY. 4) There should be some concept behind your art if it is full of various graphic elements. Abstract art is the exception, but if there are various elements in the abstract art, there should be a reason, or purpose, and it should line up with Reel Fantástico. 5) The design should not look like clip art, it should look like a customized logo made especially for RF. 6) The quality should be on a professional level such as these examples: http://www.thelogomix.com/blog/very-cool-movie-and-film-logo-design-11050418.html 7) Your design should be better than the original logo. 8) No less than 2 colors should be submitted, I wanted to see the color blue in the design, but it not necessary. 9) Using a reel is great, however, there should be something different about your reel. A reel used by itself is not creative or unique. It doesn't allow the art to stand along. 10) I am not going for the corporate look because this is a creative industry. As a designer I am sure you know the difference. All of you have been great. I love your positive energy and enthusiasm. I hope these recaps and pointers are helpful.

#114, not this direction, I thought your original designs were more creative, clean and polished. I appreciate the customized effect with the fonts and thanks for the color variations. I like #112 colors, but I like the contract between the blues and the white line in #111. I would have tried another Font color but don't change the design. Why is the "a" smaller than the rest of the type? I see this in #111 also.

#113 if the name of the company had something to do with the image presented, it could work. Otherwise, the concept has nothing to do with Reel Fantástico nor the style. Please read my brief and earlier links for a better understanding.

#115 do not understand the concept? Is that a pin? The colors need to be more vibrant because the letters are lost because of the dullness of the gray lettering. Please see previous links in earlier post.

#122 Please read my brief. Also check out some of my earlier comments. I have stated that I want the design to be focused on the graphics more than the name of the company. The design doesn't have to be complicated, but it can't be overly simplified.

#116, I love the contrast in colors, and the light effect. I like your choice of color. You listened, but placing a reel inside doesn't add anything to the concept. It is too overly simplified and not as creative and interesting as your first entry. I am looking for something that speaks.

#118 the styles do not match with your type. The font looks a little western, but your artwork doesn't. Why did you choose to go in this direction? What stands out most is "Reel" but the company isn't "Reel" it is Reel Fantástico. Re-creating the same design isn't giving me better options. Everything has to be thought out and polished. I have given you lots of incite, please check previous post

#121 too busy, not fine turned enough, do not understand what you are trying to say. Could be more simple to make a statement. You have some white space in the back ground. There are too many lines in the work. Just too busy.
