Custom illustration to use as a logo for robotics lab

Multi-Scale Robotics and Automation Lab

Purdue Robotics

Yes

Client would like a custom illustration to use as a logo for his robotics lab.

He would like a rendition of Purdue Pete character (see google search images for Purdue Pete here:https://www.google.com/search?q=purdue+pete&es_sm=91&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=8OTXU-3uPMSiyATgiIDoDA&ved=0CCwQsAQ&biw=1746&bih=809&dpr=0.75 )

His idea is to use the Purdue Pete image as a starting point, but add mechanical joints to make the character look like a robot.

The research conducted in the lab is focused on the multi-scale aspect of robotics (different sizes and scales of robots).

The lab title (Multi-Scale Robotics and Automation Lab or the abbreviated title MSRAL) needs to be incorporated into the logo. The logo also needs to incorporate the lab's affiliation (Purdue Robotics).

Even though the logo is based on a cartoon character the overall feeling of the image created for the new logo should be dignified and serious as it is being used to "brand" the client's research.

The client is also open to other design concepts beyond what is suggested above.

This logo should coordinate well with the Purdue Engineering logo (with the three darts, see https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=purdue%20engineering%20logo). Since this logo will probably be used side-by-side with the Purdue Engineering logo, it should probably have the same shape. Client has requested the use of the Purdue colors and one additional color (either complimentary or neutral). We want a simple color scheme for both the website and if the client ever wishes to print this logo.

Below is a description of the lab's research:

The MSRAL performs cutting-edge research on robotic and automation systems at various length scales: macro-scale (cm to m), meso-scale (~100's of um to a few mm's), micro-scale (10's of um to 100's of um), and nano-scale (nm). Research areas of focus are multi-scale robotic manipulation and assembly tasks, mobile micro/nano robotics, bio-nano robotics, mechatronics, robotic system integration, medical robotics and devices, MEMS device design and fabrication to aid in robotics and automation tasks, automation for the life sciences, and micro/nano aerial and ground vehicle design & control.

Dear designers, Thank you all for your submissions. As we review the submissions, we have realized that the designs using Purdue Pete are feeling too cartoonish overall. We would like to move away from that idea and focus more on a multi-scale mechanical/robotic logo. Thanks, Sarah
