Describe who/what this design is about

The State College Youth Ice Hockey Association is changing the name used by the teams within the association in light of some exciting changes coming in the community.

The Pegula Ice Arena is being constructed and will replace the current Ice Pavilion in September 2013. It will be a modern, state-of-the-art facility used by the community and will be home of the Penn State Men’s & Women’s Division I and Division II Hockey Teams. The Penn State Ice Hockey team has been called the Icers. With their entrance into Division I hockey, they will be known as Penn State Men’s & Women’s Ice Hockey.

Since 1983 we have been the Junior Icers to the Penn State Icers. There will no longer be the Penn State Icers for us to be Junior to. We will now be known as the Icers.

We are located in State College, PA and our association is comprised of amateur boys and girls ranging in age from 6 to 18 and they are from State College as well as many of the surrounding cities and towns. Players travel from all over central Pennsylvania and some as far away as Williamsport and Lewistown. Home games are currently played at the Ice Pavilion on the Penn State University Campus and will be played in the new Pegula Ice Arena.

We want to convey a modern, strong image. We are looking for something edgy, possibly implying movement/speed.

We would like to see something other than the typical stick, puck or hockey player logos. We would like something unique and creative.

We might be interested in the possibility of a character - some ice creature or a skater made of ice? This is not necessary, but can be incorporated if you would like.

What colors would you like?

Our colors are Navy Blue, White and Gray with Gray being an accent color which receives less prominence than the Navy Blue and White. The logo will be used primarily on game jerseys - one with a white background, the other with a navy background. It will also be used on team spirit apparel, hats, mugs and blankets. The logo will also be used for promotional banners and placed on letterhead and our web site.

Hello! Thanks again to all of the designers who have participated and especially to those who have given us revisions based on our suggestions - we really appreciate your efforts. Since there is just over one day left in our project, now is the time to submit any revisions or other ideas that you have for us, as we will be choosing a winner most likely by sometime Tuesday. Hi all! Thank you for all of the creative designs! We wanted to mention a few things that may be helpful. We cannot have something that depicts the Nittany Lion, as we are not officially connected to Penn State. I am sorry if our brief is confusing. We talked a lot about the new arena there because we are looking for a modern, exciting image to take us into a new era at their new state of the art arena where we will play our games. We decided that we do not want something with a shield. Some words that we hope may describe our new logo include edgy, exciting, possibly even aggressive? Another suggestion has been to use icy looking fonts for Icers. We also don't want an ice creature that is definitely something you can name, like a polar bear, as we do not have a specific mascot. Some of us like the illusion of an intimidating creature, which we have seen in at least a couple of drafts so far. We would be interested in seeing a tough looking player made of ice, if someone out there is interested in showing us that. Hope this information is helpful! Thanks again!

Thank you to everyone who has posted designs so far! This is very exciting! We plan to send messages to you about your specific designs. One possible concept that we failed to mention in our brief is the possibility of using cracking or cracked ice in the design - maybe as if the word Icers is breaking out of or through the ice? Just a thought...
