Logo for a new engineering education project
SUCCESS
No
The SUCCESS project examines the ways that non-cognitive factors (things like personality, motivation, grit, etc.) affect the undergraduate student experience for engineering students. The hypothesis is that non-cognitive factors are at least as important as cognitive factors like SAT score or high school GPA/rank. The research includes surveys and interviews with students, and we also expect to create various kinds of support programs for students to help them improve their non-cognitive profiles (for instance, improve their study skills, sense of engineering identity, motivation to study engineering, etc.) so that they can realize improved academic performance and general happiness while studying engineering.
SUCCESS is an acronym for Supporting Underlying Characteristics for Computing and Engineering Student Success
You can read the abstract for the project: https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1626287&HistoricalAwards=false
The logo should convey success, thriving, achievement, a sense of happiness or contentedness, striving. We'd like to see something with some motion or flow to it.

We are open to any colors, but would eventually like a version of the logo with Purdue University's color palette for black and gold. You can see the Purdue branding guide at http://www.purdue.edu/brand/visual/colors.html. We will probably also want a B&W/grayscale version too.

I think we want something more modern, but in terms of typeface I'd consider something slightly retro. We definitely want something that conveys motion, striving, achievement. We don't want something too literalist, something with good imagery and symbolism that captures the mission of the project (student success and happiness).
We would like something fairly clean, not too elaborate. But definitely professional and modern.
